What is #IDoConsent About?
The world’s first International Day of Consent, spearheaded by Jenny Wilson of Irregular Arts and consentculture.co.uk, took place on November 30th 2018, as a small gathering and performance event at Theatre in the Mill in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. Then in 2019, Irregular Arts ran the first Festival of Consent in Leeds, UK, including international artists, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions and performances exploring consent.
For 2020, Kitty Stryker (founder of consentculture.com back in 2011 and editor of “Ask: Building Consent Culture”), joined forces with Wilson. Their shared goal? To create an online International Festival of Consent, #IDoConsent, with artists, activists and academics working within the realm of consent culture.
Reaching out to performers and professionals with a variety of experience, Wilson and Stryker have cultivated a 2 week long program of speakers, art, and writing on the term “consent culture”, both what it means and what it looks like. The International Festival of Consent could not have come at a more vital time, and went from November 16th to November 30th 2020. 2021 and 2022 were wrapped up in individual projects, but we hope to work together on another festival soon!

Here’s our Frequently Asked Questions
Most of the events in the Festival of Consent are free of charge – we want to do as much as we can for free, because we want everyone to be able to engage. We had no financial resourcing for the 2020 Festival and we ran it anyway because consent matters. Some events hosted by our partners and associates were made possible by the tickets/fees/charges they’ve set to cover their professional costs.
If you can afford to make a donation towards the costs of running the Festival, we will use the funds raised to deliver more work on consent culture year-round.
Please support us if you can by making a one-off donation or signing up to make a monthly contribution. Thank you.
